Los Candiles, a weekly Medieval Market in the old part of town was opened in December 2002 and continues every Friday evening from 17.00 to 22.00. More than 70 Stalls with a wide range of products are set up under the old walls of the town in the Church Square and calles Trinidad and Salinas.

Mijas Pueblo / Costa

September to June.

Universidad Popular courses organised by the town hall at a very reasonable cost are available to Mijas residents. Courses in Mijas village range from dance to dressmaking and design and from computer and language studies to theatre and handicrafts, information is available from the Mijas Museum on 952 590 380. Classes are also held in La Cala, (phone 952 494 015) and Las Lagunas (phone 952 586 926) and in the municipalities outlying districts of Entrerrios and Valtocado.

Weekly Flamenco Shows organised by the town hall at midday in the main square in Mijas village. The entertainers are the municipal dance group and spectators are offered a free glass of Malaga wine, courtesy of the Mijas Tourist Office.

Guided Walks

Every Wednesday and Saturday from September to May

Free guided walks in the beautiful rural areas of the municipality organised by the Mijas Foreigner’s Department. The walks leave Mijas town hall at 10am and last for between 2 and 4 hours. The rural guides, who speak English, have designed their own routes, which are designed for all the family, including dogs on leads. Just put your name down a few days in advance at the department in Mijas town hall or phone 952 48 59 00 Ext. 244, 242, 220.

Horse Racing

Every Sunday from October to May.

Races begins at 10.30 at the custom-built racetrack. Restaurants and bars open all day even though the weekly racing lasts for around 3 hours. Market with car boot sale near the bullring, at the top end of the old town. A large affair with a wide range of goods on offer, especially antiques. The stalls spread in all directions. Be prepared for parking problems around the site. Far better to park at the bottom end of the town near the N340 and walk up (10 minutes). Lots of places to eat and drink around the market but becomes very busy at times.
